President of the Institut Pasteur holds seminar at IPSP


 

Yasmine Belkaid came to Brazil for the official inauguration of the IPSP by French President Emmanuel Macron.

June 3, 2024 – The President of the Institut Pasteur, Yasmine Belkaid, held the first seminar at the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo (IPSP). The event took place on March 28th. The theme of the seminar was Immunity to the microbiota and tussue physiology and was attended by 30 professors from USP’s Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB-USP) – most of them from the Immunology Department.

Professor Belkaid holds a master’s degree in biochemistry and a doctorate in immunology, with a post-doctorate in the biology of intracellular parasites. She has published more than 220 scientific articles on infection, immunity, immunology, microbiota and nutrition.

She was director of the Center for Human Immunology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a US government biomedical research agency, where she founded the Microbiome program of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). She has been President of the Institut Pasteur since January 2024. She is the second woman to hold this position since the institute was founded in 1887.

Belkaid came to Brazil for the inauguration of the IPSP, which was officially held by the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on March 27.
