New cooperation areas include internships, international courses and partnerships in West Africa.
On December 5, the Institute Pasteur de São Paulo (IPSP) welcomed a delegation from Paris-Saclay University, one of the top 20 universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) with a solid international reputation in research and teaching. The visit marked a significant moment of scientific and institutional exchange, consolidating the potential for future collaboration between the two institutions.
The program included an institutional presentation by the IPSP, followed by presentations by the lead researchers, detailing the objectives, challenges, results, and prospects of their research work. After the presentations, the delegation members had the opportunity to visit the institute’s facilities.
Strategic collaboration – Paris-Saclay University maintains a close relationship with the Institute Pasteur and the Pasteur Network, especially through the international doctoral program promoted by the Network. It is also a leader in the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH), which promotes academic mobility, the creation of international courses and joint doctoral programs. During the visit, participants highlighted that Rede Pasteur and USP have already submitted their applications to join EUGLOH, which should offer new opportunities for strategic partnerships.
The Paris-Saclay delegation expressed enthusiasm for the dynamism of IPSP, the originality of its research approach and the excellence of its scientific facilities, showing a strong interest in collaborating.
During the discussions, various possibilities for collaboration were identified, including:
– Student internships: sending students from Paris-Saclay for internships at the IPSP and welcoming Brazilian students to Paris-Saclay, especially those awarded with the International Research Internship Grant (BEPE) from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP);
– Joint international courses: developing new academic training programs;
– Support for cooperation in West Africa: integrating IPSP’s privileged relations with the Institut Pasteur de Dakar and the Pasteur Center in Cameroon into Paris-Saclay initiatives in the region.
The EUGLOH Alliance offers a favorable institutional and financial environment to support these initiatives, reinforcing the commitment of both institutions to the advancement of science and the training of global talent.
The French delegation which visited IPSP was composed of: Prof. Delphine Placidi Frot, vice-president for International and European Relations; Prof. Liliana Mitkova, vice-president of the University of Evry in charge of Quality and head of International Relations of the Graduate School of Economics; Prof. Marie-Anne Debily, from INSERM and the University of Evry, director of International Relations of the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Health; Prof. Agnès Linglart, vice-dean of the School of Medicine, responsible for International Affairs; prof. Giana Perre, from AgroParisTech and INRAE; Guillaume Garreta, director of the International Relations Office; and Jérémie Klinge, international partnerships officer at the International Relations Office.
They were welcomed by IPSP’s Project Manager, Gérard Chuzel, and professors Edison Luiz Durigon, Carsten Wrenger, Helder Nakaya and Patricia Beltrão Braga, as well as researchers Luiz Gustavo Bentim Góes and Rúbens Prince dos Santos Alves.
With this visit, the Pasteur Institute of São Paulo reaffirms its role as a hub of cutting-edge science and collaboration, committed to expanding knowledge and positively impacting global health.
