Part of the official program for the Year of France in Brazil 2025, the event will be held after a summer course in the Amazon.

The Institut Pasteur de São Paulo (IPSP) will hold, from October 20 to 22, 2025, the International Forum “Global Health in Tropical Regions: Perspectives from Latin America and West Africa in a Changing World – French Contributions”, bringing together experts from several countries to discuss the challenges of global health in tropical regions. The event is part of the official schedule of the Year of France in Brazil 2025, an initiative of the French and Brazilian governments to promote cultural, scientific and academic collaboration between the two countries. Organized by the Institut Français, Instituto Guimarães Rosa and the Embassies of France and Brazil, the project aims to strengthen ties and expand bilateral cooperation in several areas.

The Forum, which is supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), will be held in person at the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo and will be attended by scientists from the Institut Pasteur de Paris and other units of the Pasteur network, as well as from Senegal, French Guiana, Guadeloupe and Cameroon, in addition to researchers from other Brazilian institutions. The event aims to strengthen international scientific collaboration on topics such as epidemiology, climate change, emerging diseases and public health.

The meeting will follow a summer course in the Amazon, from October 5 to 19, 2025, in which 15 selected students will have the opportunity to participate in field activities and laboratory training at IPSP. The students will present their discoveries and impressions during the Forum, enriching the scientific debates with a young and innovative perspective.

“Holding this event reinforces the role of the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo as a center of scientific excellence, promoting a space for the exchange of knowledge between Latin America, Africa and France. Furthermore, participation in the Year of France in Brazil increases the visibility and impact of our global health research,” highlights Paola Minoprio, executive director of IPSP.

The Forum will have a dynamic format, combining lectures, round tables and interdisciplinary debates. Confirmed speakers include renowned names in the field, such as Jean-Claude Manuguerra, virologist from the Institut Pasteur de Paris, Simon Cauchemez, a leader in mathematical modeling of epidemics, and Caroline Passaes, researcher at the Pasteur-Fiocruz Center in Ceará.

The initiative seeks to promote dialogue between scientists, public policy makers and research institutions, expanding scientific cooperation and the development of innovative strategies to address global health challenges.
