The honor will be granted tomorrow, June 20th. His efforts in creating the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo are among Marco Antônio Zago’s achievements recognized by Emmanuel Macron.
June 19, 2024 – Tomorrow (July 20), at 7 p.m., a ceremony will be held to confer the degree of Knight Grade of France’s Legion of Honor (Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur) to Professor Marco Antônio Zago. Current president of the Board of Trustees of FAPESP (The São Paulo Research Foundation), Zago was rector of the University of São Paulo (USP) between 2014 and 2017.
This title recognizes Zago’s contributions, including the establishment of the Institut Pasteur de São Paulo (IPSP) and the creation of a double degree program in law between USP and the University of Lyon 3. Additionally, he played a crucial role in strengthening relations between the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), FAPESP, and USP.
The medal is an honor bestowed by French President Emmanuel Macron upon civilians or military personnel who have achieved remarkable accomplishments for the nation.
The event will take place at the French Consular Residence in São Paulo and will be attended by Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain, Consul General Yves Teyssier d’Orfeuil, and Paola Monoprio, the executive director of IPSP. In 2020, Minoprio received the same honor from the President of France.
